First of all, I wish all of you and your families and friends a wonderful new year, full of love, life, adventure, and growths.
After giving myself a long vacation (also from the blog, but I will explain this a little bit later), it feels good to start writing again. I could feel that after the project ended my head felt a bit empty and it became more difficult to get myself to write. The long break helped me to make new experiences and form new thoughts about which I can write.
I want to start this year’s blog with something I’d like to share with you and what helped me.
A little more than a year ago, I wrote two entries in which I introduced the book about myself (part 1 / part 2). This is a notebook with the sole purpose of figuring out who I am and why and what I can and want to do. At the end of 2017, I was in a dark place and I remembered a friend who plans the coming year at the end of the year. So, I did the same. I came up with the main areas in my life and I wrote down how I want the coming year to look like in that area. More importantly, I also wrote down what action steps (I called them intentions) I can do to get there.
Although I didn’t follow-up on all the intentions I set for myself, this activity helped me a lot to return to a better path. I perceived it as so valuable that I decided to do the same during the last days of 2018. At first, I had a look at what I wrote down the year before and it was interesting to read and see what I accomplished during the year. Then, I came up with the main categories which I want to focus on in 2019. Those are: My calling (work) – Love – Personal Development – Hobbies – Family – Friends.
And I already took action. In May I will start my coaching education, I meditate daily again, I started to intensify learning a new language, and I reached out to some friends with whom I haven’t talked in a while but are still very important to me. And, I also told myself that it is okay to take a pause and not write a blog when on vacation =).
However, I know it is a long year and maybe some of those intentions will change and that is okay. I also recognize that some things I envisioned for this year might take longer than expected. But that is also not really the goal of this method. Sure, if it happens then I am a happy man =). For me it is about giving my life direction. A sort of compass that helps me navigate and stay true to myself and the path I want to take. You know you are on a good track with what you wrote down, when you have a warm feeling inside you or when you feel energized by it.
I invite you to do the same and if you have questions, let me know =).
And here is the plant update^^: I got a new plant. Actually, there are several (I can see 7) new plants and they are all Christmas trees (spruces). I got them from my sister as a Christmas present and because I thought it is only one, they are called Hercules and friends as of now =).
Have a wonderful start into the year, Stephan
