Doing something for the first time

When was the last time you did something for the first time? When was the last time you did something for the first time and you were fully aware that this is something you do for the first time? There is a difference between those two questions. The first question might create memories of things we did. So, this is in retrospect. For the second questions, it is likely that you could experience the thing you did for the first time in more depth.

We do so many things for the first time. Let’s take food as an example. Today, I was browsing through my tea collection. I saw one green tea which is called Japanese cherry. It is a green tea with cherry flavor. I really like it, but I don’t drink it as often as I used to anymore. However, I can still remember the day I drank it first. It was in a special restaurant and afterwards I tried to find the tea to buy. I also realized today that drinking it for the first time was better than all the other times I drank it afterwards.

There is a certain beauty and definitely an exclusivity to doing something for the first time. The more aware we are, the more we can enjoy it. If we run through our lives, we miss those unique and precious moments. Which brings me to my next point.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see the world with fresh eyes again? At least from time to time? Maybe we can rediscover things we enjoy doing, too. Maybe I can drink a cup of this tea and be super curious about its taste and smell. It is not only about seeing with fresh eyes but renewing all of our senses. I think because or world and lives have such a fast pace, we become numb to the little things. I also think that this is a pity.

I choose to see, smell, taste, feel, and hear with more curiosity. No matter if that is something I saw, smelled, tasted, felt or heard before. Do you join me? =)

Take care, Stephan

    2. I’ve just read your recent post. I think your parents will still love you. They will know you did not tell the truth because you love them and don’t want them to worry. I also think they will understand. Please choose life! I know that sometimes the world can be overwhelming. But you being able to show vulnerability shows that you are strong enough!
