A conference I was once a participant at, twice a facilitator at, and once headed inspired me to write this poem. I wrote it for myself and for others to let our lights shine.
What does it mean to let your light shine?
Because that is the goal and we have one life time.
The meaning of it differs for all of us.
But we need to be brave and to be curious.
Did you sit down to think about your weakness and strengths?
It’s a difficult task so ask your family and friends.
Get the bigger picture and be honest to you.
This can give you an idea what you might want to do.
when I’d asked about your passion – what would you say?
What are the things that you could do every day?
What are the things you always wanted to do?
The things you dream about – write them down for you, too.
What is your purpose? The vision for your life?
The thing that gives you meaning – worth for it to strive.
Take your time to craft one, you should feel it in your gut.
The most important driver for you to never stop.
A vision might be fuzzy, so we need to break it down.
Else it might be overwhelming, and we are at risk to drown.
A mission can be useful to provide us with direction.
But everything is wasted without the proper action.
Come up with a plan, the next steps you have to take.
To let your light shine, there is so much at stake.
Start with planning backwards to give structure to your goal.
Walking along that path is like nourishing your soul.
There are other things that can help you to make progress on your way.
One thing are your values and how you define yourself today.
Another thing is structure and when you sleep and what you eat.
Sometimes it’s the small things bringing victory or defeat.
Just be curious, try to listen and understand.
There is so much you can do even if you think you can’t.
You are braver than you think, but it is your task to see.
Even little steps will help to be the person you’re meant to be.
This is not a sprint, but rather a marathon.
Surround yourself with people who make sure that you’ll go on.
Be kind to you, cause the road is harsh and long.
Be patient with yourself, know this path will make you strong.
It is our duty to give meaning to all of this.
You can try to avoid this task, feeling that something is amiss.
So be your own captain, take the wheel and sail the sea.
That’s how you create a life, full of joy and full of glee.
So let your light shine, that everyone can see.
A person full of life, the person you’re meant to be.
You playing small doesn’t serve anyone.
Let your light shine, shine as bright as the sun.
Hugs and love, Stephan
