This month’s YouTube channel is a long-time favorite called The School of Life. To my knowledge, the initiator of the channel is Alain de Botton, who is a modern philosopher. They also have a website where they sell books and other items. There are many reasons why I subscribed to the channel.
This is what they write in the channel descriptions:
The School of Life is a global organisation dedicated to fostering emotional well-being, both through our YouTube channel and our real-life schools in 10 locations around the world. We apply psychology, philosophy, and culture to everyday life, addressing the questions we’re never taught enough about at regular school or college: How can relationships go well? What is meaningful work? How can love last? How can one find calm? What has gone wrong (and right) with capitalism? We love the humanities, especially philosophy, psychotherapy, literature and art – always going to them in search of ideas that are thought-provoking, useful and consoling. We’re about wisdom, emotional intelligence and self-understanding.
You might tell that their mission is closely related to what I want to achieve as well.
Of course, above all I like the content of the videos. They speak about love, about philosophy, arts and so on. What I like is that it often provides me with a different perspective on things. Combining two aspects, I didn’t think about being related before, or approaching a behaviour or feeling from a completely different angle. Moreover, I like that sometimes it motivates me to ask myself difficult questions, leading to a better understanding of myself and others.
Another thing I like about the channel and its videos is the creativity with which the videos are produced. The videos have just the right length to keep myself focused on the often not so easy topics. They are often very colorful, but no video is like the others. Sometimes it is a drawing and sometimes they use cutout cardboard pictures and use them to create a story.
I like everything that provides me with the opportunity to learn and broaden my horizon. The School of Life YouTube channel is a perfect means to do just that. Oh, and there is also The Book of Life, which is a collection of articles about the following topics: Capitalism, Work, Relationships, Self, Culture, and other topics.
And as always, I will leave you with one of their most recent videos with the title: The importance of a breakdown:
Have a wonderful day and take care!
